New York Jets Odds for AFC East and Over/Under Wins Bet

After much fanfare over the offseason due to several big acquisitions in free agency, the New York Jets fell 17-16 to Buffalo despite jumping out to an early 6-0 lead in the first quarter. It was an extremely surprising loss for the Jets, as the Bills appeared to be down and out before scoring 14 unanswered points over the final fifteen minutes of the game. QB Sam Darnold was average at best, passing for just 175 yards and one touchdown against a stingy Buffalo secondary. Le’Veon Bell managed to score a touchdown in his first game as a Jet but struggled on the ground overall, averaging only 3.5 yards per carry on 17 rushes.

The loss had a pretty decent impact on many New York Jets betting markets, including their chances at winning the AFC East. After opening at +900 to win the division during the preseason, the Jets are now available at +1100. That wasn’t the only big change, as New York also moved from +280 to +320 to make the playoffs and saw their season win total over under prop shift from 7.5 games to 7.

Sam Darnold Player Prop Bet and Le’Veon Bell Prop Bet, Plus NY Jets Odds for NFL Week 2

While the loss itself probably didn’t change all that much in terms of individual player prop bet odds, the poor offensive showing against the Bills appears to have slightly downgraded both Sam Darnold and Le’Veon Bell in some interesting player futures. After throwing for less than 200 yards, Darnold dropped to +10000 in the race for “Most Regular Season Passing Yards”. Bell’s odds of racking up the “Most Regular Season Rushing Yards” also took a hit, as betting markets appear to be slightly concerned with his usage under Adam Gase. However, it is also important to note that Buffalo was above average against the run in 2018 which easily could have played a role in Bell’s lackluster 17 carry, 60-yard performance. In any event, he has now dropped to +1500 to win the rushing crown at the end of the 2019 NFL regular season.

Looking ahead to NFL Week 2, The NY Jets odds to pull out a victory against the Cleveland Browns do not look any rosier than they did in Week 1 against the Bills. The Jets were of course favored in Week 1, but now they are giving some points in Week 2. The NY Jets spread currently sits at +2.5 versus the Browns, giving them a +120 moneyline and over/under bet of 45.5 for those that like to play the points. For a season that started with so much promise, the Jets are looking at an early 2-0 hole unless they can pull off the upset in Week 2 against the Browns.
